Teaching Newcomers to Skate!

Skating allows children and families to be active, social, and get outside in the winter. However, skating is not easily accessible to newcomers because it is a difficult skill to learn independently, and skating equipment is expensive. With the support of JumpStart and the City of Saskatoon, our Learn to Skate program eliminates these barriers.

JumpStart’s Community Development Grant and the City of Saskatoon’s WintercityYXE Micro-Grant allow us to provide free instruction and brand-new skates and helmets to newcomers of all ages! Having this new skill and the necessary equipment will help newcomers enjoy Canadian winter for years to come.

In 2022, thirty-six newcomers have already successfully learned to skate through our Learn to Skate program! 100% of participants have reported that they plan to continue skating.

We would like to extend a warm thank you to JumpStart and the City of Saskatoon for making this possible!
