English Class Volunteer Discusses the Connection With Students In and Out of the Classroom

From the very first day as a volunteer, Imbisat felt welcomed and appreciated by teachers, staff, and students. Because her volunteering schedule was able to be catered to her personal schedule and comfort level, she was motivated to make the most of her time helping students improve their English skills and offering general guidance on life in Canada. What she enjoys most about volunteering at GGP is the meaningful connections she builds. “These connections go beyond the classroom—when I see anyone in public, I interact with them as naturally and warmly as I do in class.”

Client Breaks Out of Shell at GGP

Rose immigrated to Saskatoon from Vietnam in 2023. She describes her life in her home country as very different from her life in Canada. “I had family and friends there, and I was used to my culture and language. When I came to Canada, everything was new—the weather, the language, and the way of life. It was not easy at first, but I came here for a better future for my family and myself.”

Global Gathering Place Scholarship Recipients of 2025

At our AGM in June, we were honoured to present our second round of Global Gathering Place Scholarships. This scholarship continues the legacy of New Community Credit Union with the support of Synergy Credit Union. Synergy Credit Union donated $50,000 to GGP as part of their commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for newcomers to Canada. In the years to come, GGP will disburse $5,000 in scholarships to help advance the careers of refugees and immigrants.
