Sign up for Ride for Refuge!

Ride for Refuge is a fundraising bike ride or walk, held nationwide on October 1 to raise money for charities that support people seeking refuge from danger, hardship, and abuse. This year, funds raised through Saskatoon’s Ride for Refuge will support Global Gathering Place!

Global Gathering Place is a local non-profit, providing vital services to refugees and immigrants in Saskatoon since 1998. We serve thousands of newcomers each year, offering a diversity of free programs and services to match the diversity of their needs. Nearly 45% of our clients are refugees and that number continues to grow as global emergencies persist. We are also the Saskatoon settlement agency tasked with providing intensive case management support to newcomers in crisis.

As a drop-in centre and place of refuge, we assist newcomers with unexpected needs that fall outside of our regular programs and services. Funds raised through this year’s Ride for Refuge will provide much needed financial flexibility, enabling us to provide immediate support to those who bravely walk through our doors to ask for help. The Ride itself will be a fun and engaging opportunity for our community to show our support for vulnerable newcomers, particularly as we continue to welcome refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Chris’s Path to Citizenship: From Newcomer to Proud Canadian

Chris first came to Canada on a work permit in 2012 from Jamaica to work in the agricultural sector. He was excited to arrive in late November, immediately welcomed by mountains of snow. A friend eagerly told him about Global Gathering Place (GGP), an organization assisting newcomers in adjusting to life in Saskatoon and Canada. Chris quickly registered and noted that coming to GGP was “a wonderful experience from day one.”
