As a Homework Help Facilitator, you will help to fulfill Global Gathering Place’s mission by supporting EAL students in Grades 4 through 8 with their homework, classroom assignments, and test preparations in person and/or online. Responsibilities:

– Prepares, provides, and reviews individual, small group, or classroom activities that maximize opportunities for the EAL students
– Works in small groups with the students offering individual support, assisting with each child’s unique needs, and introducing activities aimed at improving written and verbal English communications skills
– Engages and coordinates volunteers and guides them through the process of helping students
– Responds to queries related to homework assignments
– Models and reinforces literacy skills and good basic study skills
– Maintains a positive relationship and communicate regularly with EAL teachers on students’ academic needs
– Observes and tracks students’ progress and attendance
– Responsible for the logistics of the program such as pre-approved purchasing of snacks, supplies, and other necessary materials
– Produces accurate monthly reports as directed by the Program Manager
– When needed, assists other program facilitators with their sessions and administrative tasks
– Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

– A post-secondary degree in education or the humanities is preferred. However, applicants with experience teaching children while completing their education will also be considered.
– Strong English reading, writing, and speaking capabilities
– Comfortable working with students on subjects and content at the elementary school level
– Adaptable to helping children using the methods by which they have been taught
– Ability to work independently
– Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
– Experience and commitment to promoting environments where diversity in background, thought and practice is welcomed and valued
– A valid Class 5 Driver’s License
– A clean Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
– Able to meet GGP’s COVID-19 vaccination policy

This is a part-time position for ten hours a week.
