The work we do here at GGP would not be possible without the dedication of many individuals who selflessly volunteer their time to support our newcomer clients. They do so in numerous ways, from assisting with English and other skills development programs to investing in one-on-one relationships. The work of volunteers is such an important part of helping newcomers succeed and thrive when settling in Canada. If you are interested in hearing more about the steps to become a volunteer at GGP, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
(Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are temporarily suspending placing volunteers in most programs, apart from the mentoring opportunity below).
When: Depends on volunteer & client schedules
What: GGP’s mentoring program is designed to match newcomers and refugees with our dedicated volunteers for one-on-one sessions in order to address their unique needs and offer emotional support. Volunteers may provide newcomers with an opportunity to practice their English communication skills or help prepare them for exams such as IELTS and/or the Canadian Citizenship exam. Mentoring occurs at our offices, local libraries and coffee shops, or clients’ homes.
(During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers and clients are being matched for phone and video calls instead of in-person visits).
